Cinemuse uses something called the
Pitch Process to decide which projects Cinemuse Productions will
produce during the semester... and the process starts with you. The
Process:
-
You have a script that you want
to produce with the help of Cinemuse Productions as your crew.
-
You fill out a Pitch Form and
choose four people that will each fill a different "above the line"
position that will make up your creative team.
-
You submit the form to cinemusefilmclub@gmail.com
and meet with club officers the Sunday before Pitch Night. The officers
prepare your pitch for the Thursday meeting as well as your project for
production. Your script is also posted on the site for members to read.
-
You and your creative team
(along with any other groups that may be pitching) sell your idea to
the club on Pitch Night. After answering questions from Productions
members, the club votes for a project that night.
-
After your pitch is elected,
you provide sheets for members to fill out expressing their desired
roles for the production.
-
Together with Cinemuse
officers, you plan a shooting schedule that will best utilize club time
and resources on a weekly basis. Cinemuse Productions works on the
production until completion or the end of that Pitch Period.
The Pitch Process allows the club to
focus on one vision in order to make something that would otherwise be
impossible with a smaller crew. While it is not required for your
production to be large, it is important that you understand the
challenges that your project may present for other Productions members.

Cinemuse Productions acts as a
production company that provides you and your production with the
resouces it deserves. In return, all producers and project leaders are
expected to run an organized production with responsible and dedicated
leadership.

Production Meetings
Cinemuse holds a weekly
Productions meeting every Thursday night, separate from the Monday General Meetings.
The goal of these production meetings
is to act as both a network and outlet to all aspiring young
filmmakers. Outside of helping with members' personal projects,
Productions works on the following "in house" productions:
Pitched-Movies
Throughout the year the club holds Pitch Nights, where members present
their ideas and explain why the club should take on the project. Once a
production is elected, Production meetings are transformed into
planning meetings for the project. Details on the left.
Creative Exercises
If not working on larger "pitched" projects, the club assigns smaller
projects for members to produce in teams. These pieces are normally
less restricted and can be more experimental. There are a few examples
under the Exercise columns of the Videos
page.
Third-Party Projects
Throughout the year, Cinemuse Productions provides video work for other
JMU organizations and their events. Check out our Commercial page for more information.
While many
members participate in both general and production activities, each
section is independent of the other. To be added to the Cinemuse
Productions mailing list, please email cinemusefilmclub@gmail.com
with "JOIN PRODUCTIONS" in the subject line to join our mailing list.
